Energizing Matcha Tea

Recipe

Perhaps you want to try to drink less coffee but still need to have something to enjoy in the morning or pick yourself up in the afternoon. Matcha and green tea come from the same plant but are prepared differently. Matcha has more caffeine and a higher amount of antioxidants. I prepare my matcha with collagen powder, homemade almond milk, and a bit of coconut oil for a creamy and satisfying treat. Sometimes, when I am too busy to sit down in the morning, matcha prepared that way is my breakfast that keeps me going until early lunch. It tastes great with some ice cubes for a refreshing and energizing drink during hot summer days.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp matcha powder*

  • 1 scoop collagen powder*

  • 1/4 cup almond milk or any other milk that is creamy (coconut, cow’s milk, oat)

  • 1 tsp coconut oil (optional)

  • honey or other sweetener to taste (optional)

  • ice cubs (optional)

  • bamboo whisk (called chasen) to mix matcha powder with water

*Look for high quality matcha and collagen powder. They are worth paying extra.

Method:

  • Boil water and wait couple of minutes for the water temperature to cool down to about 170-180 degrees.

  • Place matcha powder in a cup with wide brim (it’s easier to use the whisk to mix the matcha powder) and add 1-2 ounces of water. Use the whisk to mix the powder with water until it has consistency of a paste.

  • Add the rest of the water, and other ingredients. Use whisk (regular whisk works better for this part) to mix everything together. Another way to make forthy is to pour it all into a jar with a tight lid and shake it vigorously.

  • Add several ice cubs for the ice beverage
