Calming Golden Milk

Golden milk is a staple in the Ayurvedic tradition. This beverage has become popular in American and other western kitchens in the last several years because of its scrumptious and medicinal properties. The combination of creamy milk texture (cow’s or non-dairy), the aroma from the spices, and the sweetness and added richness from the dates have the power to melt stress away. Golden milk can be consumed during the day to improve mood and reduce inflammation, and in the evening to wind down and sleep better.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of milk (dairy or alternative)

  • 1 date, chopped

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • pinch of black pepper

  • pinch of cardamon

  • 1/4 tsp cinammon

  • 1/4 tsp ginger powder (or 1/2 tsp fresh ginger, graded)

  • 1/2 tsp Ashwaghanda (optional)**

  • 1/2 tsp coconut oil, ghee, or heavy cream (optional)

Method:

  • Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on medium speed until smooth.

  • Transfer the liquid into a small pot and heat it, but do not boil.

  • Drink immediately and use all your senses to fully enjoy the beverage and your simple self-care practice.

*Look for non-homogenized and VAT pasteurized (low temperature and longer heating time) milk rather than Ultra-pasteurized (high temperature and very short heating time). Kalona brand is a good one to look for.
