Recipe

This tea can save your day (or at least a hectic morning). I make this tea every day during the fall and winter when I need something nourishing to keep me warm and calm. I often don’t have time to sit down and have a relaxed breakfast during the week when it is more important to get the kids ready for school and myself to tea yoga classes. This tea has healthy fats, protein, carbs, and spices to keep you going for a few hours.

Ingredients:

·      1 TB Black tea or Rooibos tea

·      1 cinnamon stick (preferably Ceylon)

·      5 cloves

·      5-10 black peppercorns

·      5 cardamom pods (crushed)

·      5 thin slices of fresh ginger

·      1 date (chopped)

·      ¼ cup milk of choice (I use homemade almond milk)

·      ½ tsp. Ashwagandha or Maca powder

·      2 TB of collagen powder

·      1 tsp. coconut oil (optional)

·      1 TB of pumpkin puree (optional)

Method:

Bring 12 ounces of water and spices to boil. Add tea, cover with a lid, and let it all steep for 5-10 minutes. Strain and add milk, chopped date, collagen, ashwagandha, maca, collagen, coconut oil, and pumpkin puree if using. Place it all in blender and mix until blended and foamy on top.

To make the preparation easier if making tea frequently, you can mix the tea and spices (except for fresh ginger) in a jar and keep it tightly closed ready to use. In this case, bring water to boil, add the tea and spices mix and let it steep for 10 minutes.
