Mango Lassi

Lassi is a traditional Ayurvedic smoothie that offers many health benefits. It is made from diluted yogurt and fruit or/and herbs and spices, making this drink more digestible, delivering plenty of probiotics, decreasing stagnation in the body, and providing nutrients for strength and stamina. Its cooling properties make it a perfect summer beverage.


Recipe

Mango in Ayurveda is considered a king of fruit because of its divine taste and nutritional value. It is best to use mangos in the season to make this recipe sweet and creamy. This mango lassi is a real treat and has many health benefits. It aids digestion and helps to keep the energy up during the hot and busy summer season.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe mango, peeled

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 1/4 tsp cardamom

  • pinch of cinnamom

  • pinch of black pepper

  • a few strands of saffron (optional)

  • 1/4 cup of yogurt (dairy and coconut work best for this recipe)

  • 1 cup of water

Method:

  • In a blender, purre mango with 1/2 cup water.

  • Add the rest of the ingredients to the blender and mix until smooth and frothy.

  • Pour into a glass and drink slowly enjoying every sip of this delicious beverage!

Chef’s note: for more cooling variety, replace turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and pepper, with a few fresh mint leaves.
